Dublin Schools’ Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship Semi-Final: St Fintan’s HS V Lucan CBS – The Evening Herald – October 27 2016

GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SHC ‘B’

Sutton boys too strong for battling Lucan lads

ST Fintan’s HS will contest this year’s Dublin Schools’ Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship decider, following their 3-10 to 1-8 home triumph over Lucan CBS (Colaiste Phadraig) last Thursday afternoon.

Their Roselawn counterparts proved to be tough opponents on the day, but when you also take their progression to the Junior ‘B’ Hurling showpiece into account, it is proving to be a productive 2016 for hurling in Fintan’s.

The Sutton school had advanced to the knockout stages of the competition from a four-team group that included Malahide CS, St Declan’s CBS and Castleknock CC.

This meant they were prepared for the challenge that awaited them, but with Lucan having games against Templeogue College, Clonkeen College and St Colmcille’s CS under their belt, there was little to separate the sides on paper.

Phadraig’s strong link with their local Lucan Sarsfields club always makes them a dangerous proposition for any team, but with a number of Fintan’s players having experience of playing in the closing rounds of schools competitions (in both football and hurling), they eventually emerged with an eight-point winning margin.

Meanwhile, Ardscoil Ris are set to begin their Leinster Schools’ Junior Hurling ‘B’ Championship campaign tomorrow, when they face St Mary’s of Enniscorthy in the semi-final.

Ardscoil have progressed to this stage as a result of their success in the Dublin Junior ‘A’ final last week, and will be hoping to reach the Leinster decider at this grade for the first time since January 2013.
