Henderson pleased with Ramblers’ away form

AFTER seeing his side record their fourth away league win of 2016 against Cabinteely, Cobh Ramblers manager Stephen Henderson was understandably a pleased man.
Steven Christopher (two) and Eoin McGreevy were on target for the victorious Ramblers, and when you consider how difficult they found it on the road in recent years, he believes his charges deserve great credit for raising expectations.
“You have to remember, until last year Ramblers hadn’t won an away game in three years. It’s great credit to the lads that now we’re expected to go away to these places and pick up six points. Last week [against Waterford United], 2-0 down, and it could have been 4-4 at half-time,” Henderson remarked.
“Here now tonight, I think they only had the one chance of note. Hunty [Paul Hunt], I feel sorry for him. He pulled off two fantastic saves, and we didn’t clear it. In fairness, we went on and Stevie Christopher must have got one of the goals of the season there again with that volley. Then Eoin McGreevy coming on there to see it out with the third goal. I think we deserved the win all told.”
Cobh created plenty of opportunities on the night, and fit-again striker Rob Lehane was agonisingly close to adding to his seasonal tally either side of Christopher’s second goal on 66 minutes. Leanne recently returned from a two-month lay-off, and Henderson feels the former Cork City star is getting back to his best.
“Rob Lehane is just getting back to his best, he’s been out for two months. He got some great chances last week, scored the goal.
“Next week against Athlone. I think we underestimated Cabinteely for the first 10 or 15 minutes of the second half, and we just said to them ‘we can’t underestimate anybody’, and it will be the same for Athlone. We have to go with the same aggression we showed in the first-half.
“I thought we were very good in the first-half. We have to show that aggression for the 90 minutes. If we do that, we win the game, and if we don’t we could be in a bit of trouble.”
