Ni Chathasaighs lead Stepaside to Croker glory

The big winners on a day of high drama at Croke Park were Gaelscoil Thaobh Na Coille from Stepaside, who secured the Corn Olly Quinlan and Corn Aghais titles.
With a combined tally of 5-7 from midfielders Roisin and Caoimhe Ní Chathasaigh, the southsiders claimed the Olly Quinlan with a 7-9 to 3-2 win over Scoil Treasa, Firhouse.
They were forced to dig deep in the but Aghais decider against Scoil Eoin Bosco, Navan Road, with the influential Colm Ó Craidhn sealing victory with a late free.
There were a number of high-profile spectators, including Kilkenny hurler Richie Hogan, who guided Belgrove BNS, Clontarf to a 2-8 to 1-7 win over Scoil Mhuire, Marino in the Sciath Herald showpiece.
Conor Pownall produced a sublime performance for Scoil Benedict, Ongar in a Sciath Oideachas showdown, but it wasn’t enough to deny Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabrach a 7-4 to 4-4 win. Benedict also lost the Sciath Into final, to Gaelscoil na Camoige.
There were a number of outstanding individual displays, but special mention must go to Fionn Bruton and Maitiu Ó Cuagáin, who registered a combined tally of 9-9 in Gaelscoil Naomh Padraig, Leamhcan’s Corn Mhic Phiarais victory against Scoil Neasain, Baile Hearman.
