Declan’s stand in the way of Eoin return to final frontier
2014 champions Colaiste Eoin will be hoping to return to the final of the Tom Quinlan Cup when they take on St Declan’s CBS in the penultimate stage of the competition at The Bogies next Tuesday.
The gaelscoil got the better of St Aidan’s CBS in a 13-goal thriller two years ago, but they are expected to face a tough test against a Declan’s side that defeated title holders St Fintan’s HS with 16 points to spare (5-10 to 2-3) in the quarter-finals.
Declan’s are traditionally a strong outfit in schools football in the capital, and much the same could be said of St Benildus College and Ardscoil Ris, who will compete in the first of the semi-finals later today (1.30pm at St Benildus). Ardscoil reached last year’s final against the ultimately victorious Fintan’s, but they did secure the 2012 crown with a hard-earned win against Colaiste Eanna.
MAGNIFICENT
However, when you take their magnificent Leinster Schools’ SF ‘A’ Championship success into account, it has been a terrific season for Gaelic Football in St Benildus. They progressed to the last-four with a 4-12 to 2-6 away triumph against Malahide CS a fortnight ago, and will be formidable opponents for their northside counterparts.
There will also be action in the Tom Quinlan Shield today, as St David’s CBS (who are chasing back-to-back triumphs in the competition) play host to St Kevin’s CBS in a quarter-final at 12pm.
Meanwhile, the Top Oil Dublin Schools’ Senior Hurling ‘C1’ Championship final between Gaelscoil Reachrann and St Paul’s College will take place tomorrow afternoon at Parnell’s GAA – with a 1.30pm starting time.
