GAA: LEINSTER HURLING JUV ‘A’
Dub North Power into the knock-out stages in quick-time
FIRST-HALF goals from Darragh Power and Luke Swan set the benchmark last Friday afternoon, when Dublin North maintained their outstanding form in the Leinster Schools’ Juvenile Hurling ‘A’ League with a comprehensive 5-23 to 3-8 success over Castlecomer CS.
As a result of this victory (which follows earlier triumphs against Kilkenny CBS and Gound Counsel, New Ross), the Metropolitan outfit have now qualified for the knockout stages of the competition with one game still to play.
They were facing a physically imposing Castlecomer side, but with Power and Swan leading by example, they created daylight between the teams in the opening period.
Kevin Byrne was also in impressive form, but thanks to three-pointers by Power and Swan, Paraic Tierney’s charges were ten points to the good at the interval.
Indeed, they brought this momentum in the second-half, and with every line of the side getting their name on the scoresheet (Tommy O’Brien registered two points from corner-back), they moved into an unassailable position.
PERSEVERED
Castlecomer persevered with their challenge, but with the combined tally of 1-10 from Power and Swan complimenting Byrne’s 0-6 haul, Dublin North head into their final group encounter against Laois Schools with their 100 per cent record still intact.
