Deasy enjoying opportunity to wear green jersey again

WITH 37 first-team appearances during his four-season stint with Munster, Lansdowne’s Scott Deasy is a player who is firmly accustomed to representative honours.

However, after a nine-year absence from the international scene, he is thrilled at the prospect of claiming a second successive Ireland Club international cap against Scotland Clubs at Temple Hill on Friday, March 18.

Out-half Deasy commented: “Every time you get a chance to represent your country, you’ve got to grab it with both hands. I really enjoyed it (against France last month), and really enjoyed putting on the green jersey. I hadn’t done, I think, since the Under 19s in 2007, so it was great to get the opportunity again.”

This upcoming encounter will have a special resonance for Deasy, as he will be returning to his hometown club of Cork Consitution where the Ireland Club side have enjoyed success in the past.

“(We’re) down in Cork on March 18th, so looking forward to that. Hopefully there’s a good reception for the Irish lads down in Cork, and a big crowd comes out and watches us hopefully get another win.

“I think the club side have played there twice now in the last three or four years. I wasn’t involved, but I think they’ve had a couple of positive results down there in some tricky conditions.”

With an 11-point haul at Stade Jules Ladoumegue, Deasy played a pivotal role for Ireland in their 16-12 victory over France on February 12.

The 27-year-old was extremely satisfied with this particular result, especially when you consider the limited preparation time that the Paul Cunningham-coached squad had.

“Yeah, we had a great win in Paris. We didn’t have that much time together as a team. A limited number of training sessions, and we’re all obviously new combinations, but I thought we came together quite well on the night,” added Deasy.
