Blackrock stay on course
JUNIOR RUGBY
Blackrock College 28
Presentation College, Bray 6
Daire Walsh
Two tries apiece from Niall Comerford and Ben Wallace paved the way for Blackrock College’s success over Presentation College, Bray in the Leinster Schools’ Junior Cup quarter-final at Donnybrook yesterday.
The four in-a-row chasing ‘Rock opened the scoring on 10 minutes with a fine individual score from Comerford.
And even though a brace of penalties from Mick O’Gara (a cousin of Irish star Jonathan Sexton and Dublin footballer Eoghan O’Gara) moved Pres Bray into the ascendancy, a routine David Fitzgibbon penalty ensured that the defending champions were 8-6 in front at the break.
A 35th-minute try by hooker Ben Wallace placed the Williamstown school in the driving seat, and with both Comerford and Wallace increasing their personal tallies to 10 points Blackrock eased their way into the semi-finals.
