Vaughan grabs hat-trick as Terenure power to win
RUGBY: Hooker Levi Vaughan recorded a hat-trick of tries yesterday afternoon at Donnybrook, where 2015 finalists Terenure College kick-started their Leinster Schools Junior Cup campaign with a 36-15 victory against Cistercian College Roscrea.
It was extremely open contest in the first half, but courtesy of a 23rd-minute touchdown from outside centre Ross McInnes, ‘Nure held a 12-8 interval cushion. Roscrea produced a strong response in the second half as Fiachra Murphy was on hand to touch down underneath the posts.
A comfortable conversion by Foley supplemented this five-pointer, which meant that Roscrea were now three points to the good. ‘Nure were presented with a chance to restore parity from a close-range penalty on 41 minutes, but after they decided to run the ball, powerful back-row Sean Daly grabbed his side’s third try of the day.
McGetrick added the bonuses to this latest score, and thanks to subsequent five-pointers by Vaughan (two) and replacement Seamus Noone, Terenure College progressed to the last-eight in confident fashion.
