Leinster Schools’ Senior Hurling ‘A’ League Semi-Final: Colaiste Eoin V St Kieran’s College – The Evening Herald – November 19 2015

LEINSTER SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL

Colaiste Eoin succumb to Kieran’s challenge

COLAISTE Eoin’s Leinster Schools’ Senior Hurling ‘A’ League campaign came to an end in Fenagh, Co Carlow on Tuesday afternoon, as they suffered a 1-18 to 1-14 semi-final reversal at the hands of St Kieran’s College.

Group stage victories over Antrim Schools and Meath Schools had ensured Eoin’s safe passage to the penultimate round, but given the pedigree of their Kilkenny opponents, this was always likely to be a much tighter affair.

Kieran’s had emerged from their own section thanks to a 1-12 to 0-14 win over Dublin South last Thursday, and with 20 minutes gone in the action, they developed a 1-7 to 0-2 advantage.

Eoin rallied during the closing moments of the opening period, but they found themselves facing into a 1-12 to 0-7 deficit at the break.

Eoin persevered with their challenge upon the resumption, and the attacking duo of Micheál Ó Cróinín and Diarmuid Ó Floinn certainly made an impact when they were introduced from the substitutes’ bench.

Kieran’s eventually held out for a seven-point success, but this league has provided Colaiste Eoin invaluable experience for their upcoming Championship campaign.
