OLD BAWN CS 3-10, ST KEVIN’S CBS 1-7

A brace of first-half goals from David Byrne, and a second-period major from Evan Merrins, proved decisive in O’Toole Park yesterday, as Old Bawn CS had nine points to spare over St Kevin’s CBS in an entertaining decider.

Old Bawn were in flying form. A goal from the impressive Byrne, as well as a point from Chris Sallier gave them an early cushion, but Kevin’s grew into the proceedings as the half wore on, and five points without reply put the Ballygall Road East school in the driving seat.

The Tallaght outfit finished the half in much the same way that they started it, however, as a second goal from Byrne, as well as some fine play by the likes of Alan Hudson and Vincent Ogbe, helped them to a 2-4 to 0-5 mid-way advantage.

Problems

With the wind at their backs in the second period, Old Bawn continued to pose Kevin’s problems, but the north Dublin side forged their way back into the reckoning with a successful penalty just before the three-quarter mark.

However, Old Bawn’s response to this set-back was emphatic, as a third goal courtesy of the industrious Merrins, and points from Byrne (bringing his tally to 2-3 for the day), Hudson and Noel McGill eased them over the line in the end.
