THOMAS Davis once again proved to be a reliable source of scores for Chanel College on Tuesday afternoon, but the Coolock school ultimately came up second best against Bush Post-Primary in the Leinster Schools’ Junior Football ‘C’ decider in Stamullen.

Steady progress has been made by Chanel in recent years, and after being crowned Dublin Juvenile Football ‘D’ champions two years ago, they claimed the Dublin Junior ‘C’ title against St Paul’s College at the end of March in the DCU Sportsgrounds. Davis and Mark Heron contributed a combined tally of 3-5 on that occasion, and big performances were needed from the midfield pairing if they were to add a provincial success to their 2015 list of honours.

Conditions weren’t ideal in the Louth venue, however, and Jim O’Keeffe’s charges were also facing into a strong breeze during the opening period. Yet, their defence performed admirably against their impressive Dundalk opponents, and courtesy of fine contributions by Davis and Glen Power, they were only two points in arrears (0-5 to 0-3) at the midway point in the contest.

This meant that the tie was firmly in the balance, and Chanel (who included players from Parnell’s, Trinity Gaels and Craobh Chiarain in their side) certainly had reason to be encouraged when the action eventually resumed.

Bush were that bit sharper in the second half, though, and in spite of the best efforts from Davis (who finished with a personal haul of 0-5), the boys from the Wee County added to their North Leinster title in fine style.

This was a disappointing conclusion to a memorable year for Chanel College, but they can look forward to competing in Dublin’s ‘B’ grade next year.
