DAVID SOMERS was the hat-trick hero yesterday at Porterstown Road, where St Mochta’s booked their place in the second round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup.

The emphatic nature of the Mochta’s triumph was quite remarkable, as they had found themselves staring into a two-goal deficit after 25 minutes. Paul Werder and Gavin Doyle goals had offered the Wicklow men a strong platform, but following neat approach work by former Republic of Ireland international Glen Crowe on 34 minutes, David Somers found the net from close-range.

Within 60 seconds of the restart, Crowe levelled it and further goals from Somers and Crowe moved Mochta’s into the driving seat, before Somers grabbed his hat-trick.
