SCHOOLS GAELIC GAMES ROUND-UP
IT WENT right down to the wire in the end, but ultimately Colaiste Eanna came up just short in the Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling ‘B’ Final in St. Conleth’s Park, Newbridge last Saturday, on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-12 against an extremely well-prepared St. Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge side.
All in all, it has been a rather productive season for the Ballyroan school on the hurling field, as they qualified for the Leinster Championship following a most impressive 6-9 to 1-12 Dublin School Senior Hurling ‘A’ triumph over near rivals, St Colmcille’s CS.
HAT-TRICK
They had star performers on this day, and throughout the season, in the likes of Darragh O’Shea, James Madden and Jamie Desmond, but not least of all full-forward Ciaran O’Shea, who bagged himself a second-half hat-trick in the Dublin decider.
However, Rochfortbridge had a formidable No. 14 of their own in the form of 17-year-old Raharney club man Robbie Greville, who is already a member of Brian Hanley’s Westmeath senior hurling squad, and has been tipped to feature in the Lake County jersey in the near future, alongside his twin brother Gary.
He caused the Eanna rearguard a number of problems on the day, and this proved to be the catalyst for Denis Kelly’s charges on the day, as they recorded their first-ever victory in the Leinster Colleges SH ‘B’ competition, which swiftly follows their three victories in the ‘C’ grade in recent years.
Meanwhile, in Russell Park yesterday afternoon, St Mark’s CS and HFCS Rathcoole played out a thrilling Dublin Schools Senior Football ‘D’ decider, which was eventually won by the Tallaght school on a margin of 4-9 to 3-10.
