Burke goal gives Confey College the edge in ‘C’ decider

A SECOND-HALF goal from Peter Burke paid major dividends in O’Toole Park on Tuesday afternoon, as Confey College secured the Dublin Schools’ Senior Football ‘C’ title with a slender 1-11 to 0-13 victory over Scoil Chaitriona.
Joey Kilbane, Andy Doolan, Ciaran Lyons and Dean Malone were all in fine form for Confey (who are managed by former Kerry and Kildare footballer Karl O’Dwyer) throughout the contest, but to their credit, Chaitriona didn’t allow their opponents to dictate the flow of the game. Indeed, the Mobhi Road outfit were on level terms (0-5 apiece) when the half-time whistle sounded, before Burke’s three-pointer on the stroke of 40 minutes helped Confey to create some daylight between the sides.
A determined Chaitriona did reduce the gap to a minimum late on, but it was Confey who ultimately held the edge, and they can now look forward to an upcoming Leinster decider with rival Kildare school, Ardscoil Rath Iomghain.
