GAELIC GAMES: LEINSTER JUV HL ‘A’
North start brightly in Leinster
DUBLIN North enjoyed a productive start to their Leinster Schools Juvenile Hurling ‘A’ League campaign in Cloghran last Friday afternoon, as a strong second-half performance guided Martin Rabbitte’s charges towards a 2-18 to 1-10 victory over St Peter’s, Wexford.
Attacker John Sammon had contributed a number of scores from placed balls during the first-half of the game, but thanks to a Peter’s goal against the run of play, they were three points in arrears (1-7 to 0-7) when the action resumed.
OUTSTANDING
However, a 37th-minute goal from Mark Sweeney galvanised Dublin North, and with Kevin Byrne, Liam McGovern, Sammon and Liam Dunne (who formed an outstanding midfield partnership with Conor Scully) making valuable contributions to the scoreboard, they finished with 11 points to spare over the Slaneysiders .
Although they are minus the services of John Meagher (who is currently involved with Belvedere College in the Leinster Schools Senior Rugby Cup), North have a relatively strong hand to picked from as they prepare for upcoming group games against Castlecomer CS and St Kieran’s College.
