Loreto Colleges on the double to take deciders

BY DAIRE WALSH

LORETO Beaufort, Rathfarnham secured the Dublin Senior Camogie ‘B’ Championship title in spectacular fashion at Clanna Gael Fontenoy on Friday, as a blistering opening paved the way for a comprehensive 5-13 to 0-1 victory over local rivals St Colmcille’s, Knocklyon.

Goals from corner-forwards Rose McAuliffe (two) and Eimear O’Leary helped Beaufort towards an early ten-point lead, before another O’Leary three-pointer ensured that they finished the half with a 4-5 to 0-0 buffer.

A fifth goal arrived through Cora Ryan after the restart, and although Colmcille’s finally opened theiraccount with a Danielle White point, it couldn’t spoil the jubilant Beaufort celebrations.

The ‘C’ Championship decider had acted as the curtain-raiser for the day’s action in the Dublin 4 venue, and at the end of an eventful encounter, Loreto College, St Stephen’s Green secured the silverware on a scoreline of 5-5 to 3-4.

Two opening-half goals from Caoilainn McDaid had offered Loretoa slender interval advantage, but despite adding a third major through Alex Griffin upon the resumption, Scoil Mhuire, Clane restored parity with five minutes remaining thanks to their own brace of goals.

However, Loreto dug deep when required, and following a superb goal from a free by Griffin (her second of the tie), another three-pointer courtesy of Carolyn McCarthy determined the eventual outcome of the contest.
