Clinical Lusk make it to decider as goals order of day in semi

GAELIC GAMES: ROUND-UP

A 4-2 haul from midfielder Tiarnan Holland proved to be the highlight on the St Brigid’s Astro yesterday, as Lusk CC booked their place in the Dublin Schools’ Juvenile ‘E’ Football Section 2 final with a facile victory over Killinarden CS.

With a strong wind advantage offering them a great deal of incentive, Killinarden opened the scoring courtesy of a long-range point by midfielder Jason Norton.

However, Lusk launched their challenge with a fifth-minute goal from inside forward Luke Codd, and after Nathan O’Brien raised the white flag, further goals arrived for the north Dubliners through Cian Warren and powerful full-forward Padraic McGuinness.

Lusk continued to dominate with successive points by David Moore and Holland (two), and only for some heroics by Killinarden shotstopper Patrick Coleman there could have been an even bigger gap between the teams.

Holland did add a brace of goals in the latter stages of the half, before a calmly converted Killinarden penalty by Luke O’Neill reduced their lead to 16 points (5-5 to 1-1) prior to the interval.

Lusk remained in control upon the resumption, however, and by the 40th minute of play McGuinness, substitute Dean Grimes and the outstanding Holland (two) had added contributed additional majors to their already impressive tally.

Now that they were against a stiff breeze, Killinarden found themselves on the back-foot throughout the second period.

The introduction of fresh legs also benefitted the Lusk cause, and thanks to well-worked goals by Dylan Bartholomew, McGuinness (his third) and the athletic Davidson Okosun, they finished with all of 43 points to spare (12-11 to 1-1).

Meanwhile, in the same venue yesterday afternoon, CP Setanta progressed to the Dublin Schools Juvenile Football ‘D’ decider with a win against Firhouse Community College.
