Both Choilm and Tallaght reach the promised land
GAELIC GAMES ROUND-UP
LATE goals from Darragh Power and Cathal Lynch made all the difference at St Brigid’s GAA on Monday afternoon, when Colaiste Choilm booked their place in the semi-final of the Dublin Schools Juvenile Football ‘C’ Championship.
Despite facing into an early 1-2 to 0-1 deficit against Clonkeen College, Choilm forced their way back into contention, and thanks to a well-worked goal from Sean O’Neill (who registered an overall tally of 1-4) they eventually developed a six-point interval cushion.
Momentum was with Clonkeen when a successful 50th-minute penalty edged them into a two-point lead, but courtesy of three-pointers by Power and Lynch, Choilm sealed a 5-11 to 4-7 triumph. Meanwhile, on the Kiltipper Road last Thursday, Tallaght CS emerged victorious in the Dublin Schools Juvenile Football ‘E’ quarter-final, on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-4 against Synge Street CBS.
A goal on the stroke of 15 minutes by Eoin Doyle had helped Tallaght to build momentum in the first half, before a Synge Street major ensured that only two points separated the teams (1-6 to 1-4) at the midway stage.
However, an impressive haul of 1-2 from substitute Farruk Adeyemo – in a five-minute spell – helped to turn the game in Tallaght’s favour, and although Synge Street added a second goal in the 57th minute, fine displays from Mark Keating, Eoin O’Driscoll and netminder Andre Fenlon kept them at arm’s length.
