Rampant Kieran’s have too much firepower for Dublin North
LEINSTER SH ‘A’ LEAGUE ROUND-UP
By Daire Walsh
A STRONG second-half showing paid dividends for St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny yesterday afternoon, as Dublin North’s Leinster Schools Senior Hurling ‘A’ League campaign ended with a comprehensive 3-19 to 0-8 away defeat. Paul O’Brien’s side had made an impressive start to the campaign on November 5th in UCD, when they had 22 points to spare (4-20 to 1-7) over Metropolitan rivals Colaiste Eoin, but following a surprise 2-24 to 1-13 reversal against Antrim Schools under the floodlights in DCU last Friday, they were badly in need of a win as they made the journey to the Noreside. Although the final outcome would suggest that it was one-way traffic throughout the contest, North were well in contention during the opening period against the in-form Kieran’s.
Sean Hickey, Darragh Gray and Padraig Buggy were all making valuable contributions, while the midfield duo of Gavin King and John Walsh were taking the game to their opposite numbers at every available opportunity.
Donal Burke of St Declan’s CBS was also proving to be a threat, and his two point haul helped North to build a 0-7 to 0-6 mid-way platform.
Unfortunately for the visitors, they struggled to replicate their promising performances levels after the restart, and the rampant hosts ultimately maintained their 100 per cent record in ruthless fashion.
Elsewhere yesterday, Dublin South (who also had one win under their belt heading into round three) battled admirably before suffering a 0-13 to 0-10 loss at the hands of Borris VS in Mount Leinster Rangers grounds.
