Seven up for Joseph’s duo as side march on

FULL-FORWARD duo Rebecca Urquhart and Ailish O’Grady were the stars of the show in Willsbrook Park on Thursday last, as they registered a total of seven goals between them to ease St Joseph’s College, Lucan past Celbridge school, St Wolstan’s CS, in the third round of the Dublin Colleges Senior Camogie ‘A’ Championship.
Playing close to their home patch, St Joseph’s were in control from a very early stage, as Urquhart found the back of the Wolstan’s net twice in the opening moments. Wolstan’s did come back with a well-taken major of their own, but a brace of goals from O’Grady (including one from a 21-metre free) ensured that the Lucan ladies took a substantial 5-5 to 1-0 lead into the second period.
As it turned out, this margin was just too much for Wolstan’s to overcome, and even though the Clane Road outfit raised a second green flag with 15 minutes remaining, it was only a mere consolation, as O’Grady secured her hat-trick for Joseph’s, with Urquhart finishing with a most impressive tally of 4-3.
The other goals on the day came courtesy of Alison Twomey, Ciara Blanch and Lauren Malone, in addition six points from energetic corner-forward Ciara Sheehan. Joseph’s also had a solid rearguard on the day, as defensive lynchpins Rachael Kenny and Jenny Foy, as well as net minder Jenny Ryan, provided a firm platform to ensure a smooth passage for their side into the next round of the Championship.
