A brace of second-half George North tries proved crucial at Franklin’s Gardens as Northampton Saints held off a strong fightback by Leinster to secure a 33-21 triumph.
It was the Aviva Premiership outfit who drew first blood courtesy of a 13th-minute Tom Stephenson try, with further converted contributions from Kahn Fotuali’i and Luther Burrell helped Northampton to build a commanding 21-0 interval cushion.
After the restart, Leinster finally opened their account with a breakaway score from Cian Kelleher, while Dan Leavy and Michael McGrath also touched down.
