FAGAN LEAVES CITY EMPTY-HANDED
St Patrick’s Ath 5 Derry City 2
By DAIRE WALSH
DERRY CITY’S patchy formed continued at Richmond Park last night, as Christy Fagan helped himself to a hat-trick.
The hosts put the tie beyond the reach of Peter Hutton’s charges in astonishing nine-minute spell during the first-quarter.
Fagan opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a neat finish past Gerard Doherty. Just six minutes later, former Ireland international Keith Fahey sprinted towards the City goal, and his pull-back was eventually scrambled home by Fagan.
Pat’s rubbed further salt into their wounds when Conan Byrne rose highest to head home Killian Brennan’s corner.
Sean Hoare scored a fourth for Pat’s but Michael Duffy gave Derry fans something to cheer about on the hour mark with a terrific strike.
Fagan subsequently added his third goal of the game 72 minutes in. Derry claimed another goal seven minutes from the end with a Rory Patterson finish.
