DANIEL MAKES HISTORY
SHAMROCK ROVERS B…………………………………… 2
LONGFORD TOWN………………………………………… 1
DANIEL Purdy was the hero at Tallaght Stadium as his 93rd-minute goal secured a first ever League of Ireland victory for Shamrock Rovers ‘B’.
Longford looked to be gaining the upper hand early on but the host went in front on 27 minutes when Chris Lyons struck an emphatic drive into the bottom corner.
However, the midlanders were back on level terms 12 minutes after the break when David O’Sullivan headed past the stranded Michael Kelly from Kevin O’Connor’s corner.
Offside
O’Sullivan found the back of the Rovers net for a second time in the 89th minute only for it to be ruled for offside.
And after former Tallaght favourite Pat Flynn was sent off in stoppage-time, Purdy raced on to a long defensive clearance to shoot calmly past Chris Bennion.
