Feeney inspires Mayo
MAYO 1-16 ST PATRICK’S, DRUMCONDRA 0-13
A 64th-minute goal by Mayo’s Derek McDonnell proved decisive at St Mobhi Road.
The Drumcondra side were severely depleted but stormed into an 0-8 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes. The Westerners eventually halted Pat’s momentum but still trailed by 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time.
The visitors had restored parity 13 minutes after the restart with free-scoring Kenny Feeney to the fore. This seemingly set the game up for a grandstand finale; but instead Mayo pressed the accelerator.
McDonnell’s intervention six minutes from time ensured there was no way back for the home side.
