Dublin Schools Senior ‘B’ Camogie Final: Dominican College V Loreto Beaufort – The Evening Herald – January 23 2014

Egan double steals show for Doms

DOMINICAN COLLEGE 6-2 LORETO BEAUFORT 3-5

SUBSTITUTE Rachel Egan was the hero at Ballinteer Community School on Tuesday morning as her brace of second-half goals propelled Dominican College to the Senior ‘B’ Camogie title at the expense of Loreto Beaufort.

The Rathfarnham girls had a six-point cushion by the 10th minute, courtesy of points from midfielder Sarah Nagle (two) and Grace McLoughlin, alongside a well-worked goal by centre-forward Aisling O’Leary.

Dominican eventually opened their account with a Nadine Murphy goal after 13 minutes, and when Aoife Wade’s speculative shot looped into the back of Justine O’Brien’s net seven minutes later, the Griffith Avenue side had restored parity to the tie.

However, after an opportunistic three-pointer by Rose McAuliffe, the southsiders found themselves three points in front (2-4 to 2-1) upon the resumption.

After the restart, corner-forward Ciara Byrne’s finish was followed by a point from the reliable Murphy, giving Dominican the lead.

A barren period for Loreto was ended by McAuliffe’s second goal on 42 minutes, but two three-pointers in the space of a minute by Murphy and the aforementioned Egan ensured Dominican were four points to the good moving into the final-quarter.

Despite Beaufort’s best efforts, Egan pounced for her second green flag effort in the 58th minute to secure Dominican College’s triumph.
