O’Byrne Cup Group C: DIT V IT Carlow – Irish Daily Mail – January 13 2014

O’BYRNE CUP GROUP C ROUND 3

DIT………………………………. 3-12

IT CARLOW…………………… 0-16

SECOND-HALF goals by Darren O’Reilly and Tomas O’Connor were decisive as DIT secured a five-point victory over a spirited IT Carlow.

A 1-1 salvo from Offaly corner-forward Bernard Allen gave DIT an early advantage. Allen, Ciaran Reddin (two), corner-back Gary O’Hare and Niall Scully all added to the Dublin college’s tally, but thanks to a series of well-worked scores for Carlow, including 0-3 from Tipperary’s Liam Boland, the sides were on level terms (1-6 to 0-9) at the mid-way point.

Indeed, when DIT netminder Cian Daly was penalised for an infringement on opposing full-forward Tommy Durnin seven minutes after the restart, it looked like the pendulum was ready to swing in Carlow’s favour, but Daly produced a superb double save from Boland’s subsequent penalty.

Reddin’s fourth point on 49 minutes edged DIT back into the asecendancy, before a neat finish by O’Reilly offered gave then breathing space.

Carlow kept within touching distance but a third goal late on by Kildare star O’Connor sealed a hard-earned triumph for DIT.
