DESPITE the best efforts of an impressive Castlecomer, Colaiste Eoin finished their Fr Cosgrave Cup group campaign on a high, as two goals from Sean O Dubhuir helped the Booterstown school to a commanding victory over the Kilkenny outfit at the UCD Sportsground on Monday afternoon, writes Daire Walsh.

Though this was the opening win of the competition for the gaelscoil, they will now progress to the Shield semi-final this coming Monday, and will certainly be in a good frame of mind for the upcoming fixtures as a result of their accomplished display.

This was the first time since the start of the new school term that Eoin have been able to field their strongest line-up, due to club commitments and a number of injuries in previous outings. Castlecomer were without the services of a handful of players, although defensive lynchpins Robert Reid and Conor Dowling did excel.

The midfield pairing of Sean Buggy and Erin’s Own club man Shane Feehan also caused the Stillorgan Road boys plenty of problems, and the centre-field duo proved to be the main source of scores for the visitors. However, Eoin were in determined mood on the day, and O Dubhuir’s brace of majors were crucial towards their cause.

Aside from O Dubhuir, there were a number of outstanding displays from the south Dublin boys, none more so than Feargal de Fuitligh, who was a constant thorn in the side of the Castlecomer rearguard.

He finished with a fantastic tally of 1-5 from play, ensuring that Eoin had more than enough in reserve to register a morale-boosting triumph.
