                    BORRIS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL 1-18

                    COLAISTE EOIN 0-8

The placed-ball accuracy of midfielder Kevin McDonald proved decisive on Monday afternoon, as Borris VS secured a comprehensive 13-point victory over Coláiste Eoin in a Fr Cosgrave Cup encounter played in the Carlow town.

This was the Stillorgan school’s third game in the Leinster Post-Primary Junior Hurling ‘A’ competition following earlier ties against St Kieran’s College and Good Counsel College, but in spite of their best endeavours to date, Eoin are still searching for their first win of the season.

A strong defensive play by Gary Lawlor, Dara Tobin and Tony Lawlor for the hosts made it difficult for the Eoin attack to build momentum, and with McDonald forming a strong partnership at centre-field alongside Philip Connors, the Carlow boys always had that little bit extra in the tank.

Nevertheless, Eoin did have some good openings during the course of the afternoon, as Borris custodian Jason O’Neill had to be on his toes to keep the opposition attack at bay throughout, and influential forward players like Seán Brennan, Michael Brennan and Niall Lynham also had to ensure that they kept a safe distance between themselves and their south Dublin counterparts.

Though this defeat was another set-back for Eoin, they will have a chance to make amends when they are back in action against Castlecomer Community College this coming Monday in their final group game of the Cup.
