First Bohs victory for new boss Alan Reynolds
Galway United 0, Bohemians 2
Goals from Jevon Mills and James Akintunde were crucial at Eamonn Deacy Park as Bohemians defeated Galway United to pick up their first win under new manager Alan Reynolds.
Moments after blocking a goal-bound shot by David Hurley at the opposite end, Dayle Rooney turned provider for Bohs’ opener on 21 minutes.
On loan from EFL Championship outfit Hull City, centre-half Mills rose highest to head Rooney’s enticing left-footed set-piece delivery past Galway netminder Brendan Clarke from the edge of the box.
Having struck a late winner as a substitute at The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium three days earlier, Stephen Walsh was once again introduced off the bench by Galway boss John Caulfield upon the resumption along with Regan Donelon.
However, despite showing plenty of intent, the westerners found themselves two goals adrift on 57 minutes when Akintunde clinically headed a Rooney corner to the net.
Even though the travelling Bohs faithful did breathe a sigh of relief when Mills dramatically cleared an effort from Galway substitute Francely Lomboto off the line, the Gypsies emerged as comfortable winners.
