Dardis stars for ‘Nure

Daire Walsh – 09 May 2013 02:00 PM

SAM Dardis was the star of the show at O’Toole Park.

TERENURE COLLEGE 7-14

LUCAN CBS 3-6

His four second-half goals helped Terenure College towards a comprehensive success over Lucan CBS in the Tom Quinlan Shield 1 decider.

Lucan had enjoyed a dream start when Cian McGrane found the back of Conor Shanton’s net with just three minutes on the clock, but Terenure responded emphatically with a goal direct from a ’45’ by midfielder Rory McGrath.

‘Nure added to their tally with points from Tom Muldoon, Conor Gleeson and Luke Basquel, but their opponents regained the lead thanks to a second major from half-forward Ryan Eccles.

Terenure rallied once again with the help of a three-pointer courtesy of Basquel, but a brace of scores from centre-fielder Ben Coffey reduced Lucan’s deficit to one (2-4 to 2-3) in time for the interval.

This left matters delicately poised upon the resumption, but an early 1-1 salvo from the elusive Dardis after the restart did put some daylight between the sides. Lucan points via Emmet Allen, Cian McHugh and Coffey cancelled out similar efforts for Terenure from Callum McCabe, Dominic Henry Hayes and half-back Luke McDwyer, but the Templeogue Road outfit (who are coached by former Wexford footballer Philip Wallace) were beginning to pull away when Dardis grabbed a second goal from close-in after 44 minutes.

Dardis completed his hat-trick from the subsequent attack, before adding his fourth from a right-hand angle with just six minutes remaining.

Eccles registered a consolation score for Lucan with his second goal 53 minutes in, but a seventh Terenure goal from Henry Hayes brought the curtain down on a fine performance.

In the section 2 shield final, St Michael’s College proved too strong for Gaelcoláiste Reachrann, running out 6-8 to 2-5 winners at Alfie Byrne Park. Elsewhere, Salesian enjoyed a 7-14 to 6-6 victory over St Fintan’s HS in the juvenile hurling B semi-final replay.
