Busy week ahead for the Saints
By Daire Walsh
FOLLOWING a lengthy period of inactivity, St Patrick’s Athletic face a busy week ahead in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.
The Saints’ most recent competitive game was way back on September 9, when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Drogheda United at Head In The Game Park.
That result represented a fifth league win on the bounce for Tim Clancy’s men and also extended their unbeaten run in the top-flight to seven games.
However, Pat’s face a tricky return to the Premier Division tomorrow evening as they take on the high-flying Derry City at Richmond Park (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Candystripes are currently second behind Shamrock Rovers in the league standings and have already beaten the Saints on two occasions in 2022.
On Monday evening, Pat’s will then face Shelbourne in a long-delayed encounter at Tolka Park. Originally due to take place on August 7, this fixture was ultimately postponed after the Saints informed the FAI they were unable to secure a charter flight back from their UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier showdown with CSKA Sofia.
The Inchicore side have experienced mixed results against Damien Duff’s charges thus far this season – one win and one defeat – but will be eager to maintain their battle for a European spot.
Tomorrow week (October 7) will see the Inchicore side travelling to Oriel Park to take on Dundalk, who are currently two points ahead of them in third place with a game more played.
