Dublin Senior Two Football Championship Relegation Play-Off: St Anne’s V Trinity Gaels – The Tallaght Echo – September 22 2022

Anne’s stay in SFC Two ranks

By Daire Walsh

ST ANNE’S retained their Dublin Senior Two Football Championship status for 2023 with a 2-10 to 0-13 triumph over Trinity Gaels in a relegation play-off at Balgriffin on Saturday.

In the second-tier competition for a fifth consecutive season, the Bohernabreena men found themselves in a fight for survival as a result of finishing at the foot of the Group Three table.

Although they were desperately unfortunate in losing out to Erin’s Isle by a single point, a brace of six-point reversals at the hands of Naomh Maur and Fingallians set up a do-or-die showdown with Trinity Gaels.

Anne’s established a 1-7 to 0-3 cushion at the midway stage, and while Trinity fought back, the southsiders held firm to finish with three points to spare.

Remaining in Division Two of the Adult Football League will be next on the agenda for St Anne’s with forthcoming games against Whitehall Colmcille and Templeogue Synge Street set to determine their AFL fate heading into next year’s competitive fare.
