CORN MARINO
St Laurence’s firepower secures title
ST LAURENCE’S KILMACUD………………1-12
ST PIUS X BNS…………………………………1-8

JOSEPH Davy and Brian Farrell were in sparkling form on Tuesday in GAA HQ, where St Laurence’s, Kilmacud secured the Corn Marino title with a four-point win over St Pius X BNS.
Combining for a grand total of 12 points, Davy and Farrell were a thorn in the side of their opponents. Captain Matthew Casey stood tall for St Pius and while they suffered final heartbreak, there can be no doubting their commitment over the course of the tie.
SPECTATOR
Former Wexford footballer Philip Wallace was an interested spectator in the Cusack stand for this game, with his son Eoin taking his place amongst the Pius attack. He was joined there by Ronan O’Dell, the younger brother of Dublin senior footballer Lorcan O’Dell.
Casey squeezed the into an early lead with a pointed free, only for Laurence’s to fire back with three scores on the trot courtesy of Davy. Dependable centre-forward Davy added a fourth point as the half wore on, but Pius kept in touch with Casey and Conor O’Brien efforts either side of it.
Casey found the range for a third time prior to the interval, but Laurence’s were the happier team at the break. Supplementing another Davy free, Farrell sent over two stunning points to give the Kilmacud side a 0-7 to 0-4 buffer.
CONVERTING
Despite Pius defender Hugh Fennell converting from long-distance, their opponents remained in the driving seat after Farrell and Davy once again found the range. Although Casey and Oscar Morgan did their utmost to keep Pius in the reckoning, it proved difficult to curb the attacking influence of Laurence’s.
Davy and Farrell were relentless in their pursuit of scores and Tom O’Halloran’s 49th-minute goal effectively placed the outcome beyond doubt. St Pius kept plugging away, however, and Conor Hanrahan’s late three-pointer provided them with plenty of solace upon the final whistle.
