Ulster Bank League Division 1A: St Mary’s College V Dolphin – The Sunday Independent – February 24 2013

ST MARY’S COLLEGE 20

DOLPHIN 18

GAVIN DUNNE was the hero for St Mary’s College at Templeville Road yesterday as his penalty right at the death completed a stunning comeback for the Templeogue men.

The Cork side took the lead when a break by Cian Bohane allowed James Kiernan to cross the whitewash. Outhalf Barry Keeshan added the conversion and he was also successful with a 28th-minute penalty as the visitors moved ten points clear. The hosts opened their account before the half’s end when Dunne’s penalty reduced the arrears.

Mary’s cut into the deficit after the re-start with another penalty from Dunne, but Dolphin hit back when Bohane brilliantly crossed over on the hour mark. Keeshan brought his tally to eight with a spectacular drop-goal, but a brace of efforts from Dunne gave Mary’s hope, before Matt D’Arcy registered their only try with five minutes remaining.

Dunne was off-target with the conversion attempt, but he made amends moments later, as his fifth successful place-kick of the game helped his side to maintain their good recent form.
