Dublin Senior Hurling Championship Round-Up
Lucan Sarsfields will face Na Fianna in the semi-finals of the Dublin Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship following their 1-20 to 1-16 victory against Craobh Chiaráin at Parnell Park on Saturday.
When the 12th Lock side trailed by a single point (1-12 to 0-14) 15 minutes from time, it was the talented Crummey brothers – Chris and Paul – who stood up to be counted.
Chris exerted a strong influence around the middle-third and Paul bagged a 55th-minute goal to ensure Lucan got over the line.
Their forthcoming opponents will be battle-hardened ahead of their impending meeting as extra-time was required before Na Fianna could see off the challenge of St Jude’s on the same day in Donnycarney.
Dublin’s sole All-Star nominee from 2021, Danny Sutcliffe was in scintillating form in the latter’s attack.
His haul of five consecutive points either end of the third-quarter mark looked set to get the Templeogue outfit into the next phase, before Na Fianna fired back.
Jude’s found themselves three points clear at the midway stage in extra-time, but a Colin Currie-inspired Na Fianna ultimately came through with three points to spare (0-26 to 0-23).
It was a disappointing day overall for the Jude’s hurling section, with their ‘B’ team losing out comprehensively to Naomh Olaf in a Dublin Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final at Tymon North (2-23 to 0-12).
Elsewhere in the Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship, Ballyboden St Enda’s also fell to an extra-time reversal against Cuala.
A re-match of last year’s final, this was a pulsating affair from start to finish.
Despite David Treacy and Dublin senior footballer Con O’Callaghan shining for their Dalkey counterparts, ‘Boden forced the game into 20 additional minutes courtesy of a Paul Ryan free deep into stoppage-time.
The sides appeared destined to remain inseparable, until Treacy and O’Callaghan pointed to seal a 1-27 to 0-28 triumph for reigning champions Cuala.
The Ballyboden ‘B’s had greater joy in the Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship quarter-finals, however, as they secured a hard-earned 2-13 to 1-14 win over Raheny at St Anne’s Park on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in a Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship relegation play-off at O’Toole Park on Sunday, Thomas Davis came up short against Scoil Ui Chonaill on a scoreline of 3-21 to 1-11.
Round Tower Clondalkin lost out to O’Toole’s by five points (2-18 to 2-13) in a Senior ‘B’ relegation play-off at Monastery Road on Saturday, but will continue their fight for survival against Crumlin on October 31.
