COLM O’NEILL and Dara O Gallachoir both found the net for Colaiste Eoin in Clonad on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to stop a Paddy Cahill-inspired Kilkenny CBS from progressing to the next stage of the Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling ‘A’ Championship with a narrow 0-14 to 2-6 victory.

The Noresiders caused Eoin plenty of problems in the opening period, but goals from the inside duo of O’Neill and O Gallachoir in the 13th and 17th minutes respectively handed the gaelscoil a slender lead during the break (2-2 to 0-7).

With Cahill and JP Treacy proving to be deadly accurate, Kilkenny fired over the opening five points after the restart. But despite the Booterstown school set-up in a nerve-jangling conclusion when they restored parity with ten minutes remaining, stoppage time scores from Cahill and Luke Scanlon forced the issue in the favour of CBS.

Also finding themselves on the wrong side of a tight scoreline last Saturday were Dublin North, who put up a gallant display against Good Counsel in a 0-12 to 0-9 reversal.

Dublin North were playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half in Waterford, but despite the reliable Sean Gray chipping in with four points from frees, the considerable contributions of John Walsh and Cathal Bolger gave the Wexford school a 0-7 to 0-5 midway buffer.

Corner-back Padraig Doyle struck between the posts to increase Counsel’s lead to four in the second period, and though three further points from Gray narrowed the margin to just one, a late brace from Walsh (who finished with 0-8 to his name) was enough to put Good Counsel through to the semi-final.
