KEVIN McDONALD McDonald was the scorer-in-chief at St Conleth’s Park in Newbridge on Monday afternoon when his tally of 1-8 helped Borris to a comprehensive 15-point victory in this decider.
BORRIS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL 1-16
ARDSCOIL RIS 0-4
Ardscoil Rís qualified for the provincial phase as a result of their triumph against Templeogue College in the Dublin Junior Hurling ‘A’ final back in October. But they were up against a Borris side that already had considerable success under their belt as a result of their narrow triumph against Callan CBS in the South Leinster Junior Hurling ‘B’ showpiece.
This, and their win over Mountrath CS at the semi-final stage of the main competition, put them in prime form ahead of their clash with the Griffith Avenue outfit and, with the wind at their backs, an early goal from McDonald gave them an excellent platform to build on.
The Carlow side held a 1-9 to 0-2 lead at the midway point and although Rís added a couple of points after the break, Borris had too much for them, with McDonald displaying unerring accuracy from placed balls, and both Murphy and Dean Grennan finishing with 0-2.
